2015 Natural Hair Bun Challenge

My bunning challenge for 2015 which I have already began. This is my way of protective my ends for the year. Of course I will have some variations in the mix, while giving my hair a chance to breathe along the way. But mostly this year is dedicated to the protection of those ends 😀

Here are some guidelines that should be followed for those who wish to join me:

  • It’s important that you start off with cleansed hair that has been well conditioned.
  • Use the L.O.C Method. Ensure that you moisturize you hair very good with a leave-in conditioner and/or moisturizer. Remember to seal in that moisture!
  • You should start your bun on stretched hair either by doing twists, braids, bantu-knots or a light blow out as these help to reduce tangles and knots. These techniques also make the process of re-moisturizing much easier.
  • Ensure that you do your buns after the hair has dried fully.
  • Its important that you change the positions of your buns as it reduces tension on the same areas. So you can do a high bun, low bun, side bun, multiple buns and even add hair as well.
  • It is imperative that you do not pull your hair too tight as this can cause unnecessary pressure on your edges and nape.
  • Use hair friendly tools such as the ouchless hair elastics.
  • When using bobby pins ensure that they do not stab your scalp.
  • Ensure that the gel you use is free of drying alcohols.
  • Use a natural bristle brush to lightly smooth the surface of your hair.
  • Ensure that your hair does not become dry and brittle. So release your bun and re-moisturize d seal as needed.
  • Always wear a satin bonnet or sleep on a satin pillowcase.
  • Keep your hair bunned for a minimum of 5-6 days per week.
